01 / The story

Selank is a designed seven-amino-acid peptide related to tuftsin. Research has explored how it may affect GABA-related signaling and the processing of other short peptides.

02 / In plain language
01

The design

A tuftsin-related four-amino-acid segment is paired with a Pro-Gly-Pro tail.

02

The proposed role

Laboratory work has examined modulation of GABA-receptor signaling.

03

The distinction

Modulating a signal is different from proving relief of anxiety in broad clinical use.

THE IDEA TO KEEPA signal modulator under study, not a “calm switch.”
03 / Where the evidence stops
Mostly mechanistic research

GABA binding and gene-expression findings are mechanistic research. Broad, independently replicated human evidence for clinical efficacy and long-term safety remains limited.

Selank is often reduced to one phrase online: “the calming peptide.” Biology is more complicated.

Selank is a seven-amino-acid synthetic peptide derived from a tuftsin-related sequence with a Pro-Gly-Pro tail. Laboratory research has explored two main ideas: modulation of GABA-receptor signaling and inhibition of some enzymes that break down enkephalins.

Those mechanisms are interesting, but mechanistic evidence is not the same as broad proof that Selank treats anxiety, eliminates stress or works like a benzodiazepine. Much of the evidence is preclinical, older or regionally concentrated, with limited modern independent replication.

Not sedation. Not emotional shutdown. A signaling hypothesis still being studied.
